VT’s Public History program offers courses both based on theory and aimed toward helping students learn practical skills. In our Digital History course, students learn PhotoShop, ArcGIS, HTML, Omeka, Audacity, Final Cut Pro, and iMovie. In our Oral History course, students learn how to find interview subjects, prepare for and record oral histories, and interpret the results. As our program continues to grow, we work toward helping students learn new skills that will ultimately be helpful for professional development.
